WHO CAN GO TO WRAP?

Anyone is welcome to take a WRAP workshop. It is entirely voluntary. People shouldn't feel forced to take it. The most important thing is that people need to want to take it. That is the only factor that should be used in determining whether someone is 'ready' to attend WRAP.

A person can withdraw from the program at any time, if they determine for themselves that they don't feel ready. People can take WRAP as many times as they want to.

WRAP has an application process - people don't need a referral.

WHO LEADS WRAP?

It is an educational workshop, not therapeutic. Our facilitators have extensive training in how to facilitate groups & present the material in a simple, easy to understand way. They are not teachers, or counsellors; they are there to facilitate a group learning process.

The information shared in WRAP workshops is considered confidential & won't be shared with people outside the group.

As the WRAP material is copyrighted by The Copeland Center, only those trained through the Copeland Center are permitted to distribute the handouts and material. All of our Facilitators have the support of the Copeland Center.

Wellness Recovery Action Plan

WRAP is a recovery tool developed by Mary Ellen Copeland. It is a tool for people to learn how to take charge of their own health. They learn concrete ways to cope with their illness on a daily basis. WRAP is a 7-week workshop facilitated by consumers. It is a recovery and crisis prevention plan that each person creates for himself or herself.

Key Elements of WRAP

  • The Wellness Toolbox

This is a list of anything and everything you have used to stay well. It may even include things you've wanted to try, but haven't yet. Essentially, our 'Wellness Toolbox' is a collection of your own personal wellness tools. It is unique to you. This is the first step in creating your Wellness Action Recovery Plan. Everybody has a 'wellness toolbox'. It can be anything from eating well and exercise to spending time with friends, or doing something creative.
  • Daily Maintenance Plan

  • Identifying Triggers and an Action Plan

  • Identifying Early Warning Signs and an Action Plan

  • Identifying When Things Are Breaking Down and an Action Plan

  • Crisis Planning

  • Post Crisis Planning

5 Key Recovery Concepts

  • Hope - If you are experiencing psychiatric symptoms, there is hope that you can get well and stay well for long periods of time. You can develop, make and achieve goals for yourself.
  • Personal Responsibility - You are the expert for yourself. It is up to you to take personal responsibility for your own wellness. When we take this responsibility back we can achieve the highest levels of wellness, happiness and life satisfaction.
  • Education - Learn everything you can about yourself and your illness, so that you can know how to make the best decisions about your life.
  • Self Advocacy - We become effective advocates for ourselves by becoming self-aware, believing in ourselves, setting personal goals and working towards meeting them.
  • Support - this is an essential element on the road to recovery. Support can come from family, friends and health care professionals.
