The dictionary says trust means a lot of things. The two I like the most are: (1) A firm belief in the reliability or truth or strength of a person. (2) Confident expectation. Trust plays a very important role in life. As we learn to trust one another, the ability to connect on a deeper level is heightened. My role as a peer support worker is to build a relationship of trust with my clients through encouraging, and listening to them so that they feel safe and secure to trust me also. I strive to be trustworthy with my client's case manager so that he knows that I will tell him when something is going on with my client, and that I will be open to his feedback. It's also important for me to be able to trust my supervisor, so that if I'm having trouble with clients, case workers, or even myself, she will be there for me.
